Mechanical Design Engineer III

If so, we have an exciting opportunity that involves “hands-on” support for our Cryogenics, Quantum Computing, and Test and Measurement markets.

The Phoenix Company team is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of RF and Microwave connector applications with our growing electronics business. Your primary responsibility for this role will be leading the design activities to develop, evaluate, maintain, and improve manufacturing methods and solutions that meet customer application requirements. You will partner with the Engineering, Quality Assurance and Manufacturing teams to evaluate customer needs and optimize design options to balance performance and cost. The Mechanical Design Engineer III shall lead complex activities for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering projects.

         

Education and Experience:

This dynamic role involves identifying and initiating designs of a complex nature. We are seeking a candidate who possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of RF Mechanical Engineering experience and/or Master’s or Doctoral Degree that provides the equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. The Mechanical Design III must possess solid design knowledge of company’s main products and manufacturing methods. This role requires prior 2D drawing and 3D modeling experience for leading low, medium, and high level complexity design projects and problem solving with minimal input and guidance from others. Advanced computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD are required in competing projects and their applications..  This role will require a strong desire to learn and apply advanced outside trainings on engineering principles and industry related material to transition designs from conception to final production.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a role model in following and assisting others with engineering procedures, departmental processes and advanced knowledge of products required to carry out the design task.
  • Maintain advanced design knowledge of companies’ main products and manufacturing methods to identify areas of improvement and make constructive suggestions for change.
  • Execute low, medium, and high level design complexity projects and problem solving with minimal input and guidance from others necessary for successful completion.
  • Able to execute high number of projects.
  • Attend required departmental trainings and may attend more advanced outside professional training and growth opportunities on industry related material and suggest such for department.
  • Offer improvements to department procedures and documentation.
  • Identify and suggest improvements on current product designs.
  • Provide engineering assistance with design work and procedural questions supporting various aspects of production.
  • Stay current on Industry trends and designs

  • Actively follow engineering procedures, processes and has advanced knowledge of products and design.
  • Actively execute and lead projects including holding meetings, proper project documentation and positive cross functional interaction with input and guidance from others as necessary for project requirements.

  • Able to work on more complex projects and execute work at a higher pace, while looking for design improvements.
  • Is dependable and reliable in attendance and execution of projects, is recognized as a “Go To” employee and problem solver.

  • Individuals will be required to sit for longer periods of time performing tasks within engineering design software.
  • Individuals may need to stand as required to consult with engineering personnel.
