Quality Engineer

The Phoenix Company of Chicago, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Quality Engineer to support our quality management system in carrying out tasks related to quality assurance, inspections, documentation, and performance improvements for our growing manufacturing business. This dynamic role will drive sustainable corrective actions that address true root causes and provide continual improvements. This individual will develop and implement quality control processes from design through to manufacturing.     

Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field or ASQ CQE Certification. This role requires a working knowledge and understanding of quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.) and regulatory requirements with some auditing experience preferred.  Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies such as root cause analysis, calibration, and Failure Mode Analysis (FMEA) are essential.  The Quality Engineer must be self-motivated, team oriented and possess effective communication skills to effectively collaborate across different functional teams and levels of the organization.  Experience with quality assurance software and ERP systems preferred. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct quality audits and electrical inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to established standards and specifications.
  • Work with a cross-functional team to disposition suspect material.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering department to review product designs for manufacturability and quality assurance considerations.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) processes to address quality issues and drive sustainable solutions.
  • Establish and maintain quality documentation, including procedures, work instructions, and inspection records in accordance with aerospace quality system standards.
  • Provide alerts, training, and guidance to production and quality control personnel on quality standards, processes, problems, and tools.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance and collaborate with vendors to resolve quality issues and improve incoming materials.
  • Support customer inquiries and concerns related to product quality, collaborating with Sales, Engineering, Production and Management as needed.
  • Gather and analyze data for KPIs. Prepare presentation materials as appropriate.
